Foot reflexology is the study and the practice of working reflexes in the feet that correspond with other parts of the body. With specific thumb, finger and hand techniques, reflexology provides stimulation and causes a response in the corresponding parts of the body.

History of Reflexology

Practices resembling reflexology may have existed in previous historical periods. Similar practices have been documented in the histories of China and Egypt. Reflexology was introduced to the United States in 1913 by William H. Fitzgerald, M.D. (1872–1942), an ear, nose, and throat specialist, and Dr. Edwin Bowers. Fitzgerald claimed that applying pressure had an anesthetic effect on other areas of the body.

Reflexology was modified in the 1930s and 1940s by Eunice D. Ingham (1889–1974), a nurse and physiotherapist. Ingham claimed that the feet and hands were especially sensitive, and mapped the entire body into "reflexes" on the feet renaming "zone therapy" to reflexology. "Modern reflexologists use Ingham's methods, or similar techniques developed by the reflexologist Laura Norman."

Facial Reflexology

Facial reflexology is suitable for a natural and alternative treatment for pain, depression, anxiety, boosting immune system, and many more benefits. Facial reflexology has long been known in all Far Eastern countries such as China and Japan but it was in Vietnam that the art was to express itself wholly and where the main developments were made in the 1980s. The amazing method of Dien’ Cham’ has its roots in a technique developed by professor Bui Quoc Chau and a team of doctors, research scientists and acupuncturists in Ho Chi Minh city which he named “Facytherapy”. It is simple, effective and spectacular. The great attraction of facial reflexology is that it is capable of preventing and giving relief from many of the little ailments and pains that diminish your quality of life and that modern medicine often cannot cure, except with stronger and usually more toxic medicines.​

Maternity Reflexology

During your pregnancy, your body will go through significant changes; these changes will affect the emotional, hormonal and physiological balance of your body. Reflexology can help to alleviate or prevent discomfort arising from this imbalance and restore the body’s equilibrium. Research has shown that regular reflexology treatments during pregnancy can shorten the duration of labour, with many women requiring less pain-relief. 

Reflexology is safe and effective during pregnancy. It is, however, not recommended if there is a history of premature labour, severe hypertension, placenta previa or recent vaginal bleeding. If you suspect any problems in your pregnancy it is important to contact your doctor or midwife.

Gentle Touch Reflexology is especially suited for newborn babies and children.
